Movie review: (horror) “Deadline” (2009)

Aw man. I really wanted to like this movie. I loved Brittany Murphy. She was beautiful, talented, funny, and she used to play psycho girls before she got really famous. I love Thora Birch. I love her sweet face and FU attitude. But I did not love this movie. I didn’t even like it.

The plot was alternately totally contrived and ridiculously unbelievable. Brittany’s performance was good, although her thin, breakable appearance was a little unsettling. Thora’s performance was good too. They just didn’t have anything to work with.

If they’d had a competent script, this could have at least been a spooky-cool supernatural thriller, if not all that original. As it is, it’s incoherent and boring, with the occasional startle. Sadly, I don’t recommend it at all.

-Rated R
-2 out of 5 stars
-Probably OK for older teens, but they’ll think it sucks too.
