Movie review: (horror) “The Uninvited” (2009)

December 10, 2010 at 6:23 pm (horror, movies)

I was fully prepared to hate this movie. See, I’d heard it was a remake of one of my all-time favorite Korean horror movies, “A Tale of Two Sisters.” However, “The Uninvited” isn’t a remake. It’s “based on.” Very loosely.

The lead actress was good. She does “vulnerable and moody” way better than that little chick from “Twilight.” Basically, the filmmakers took a central idea from the Korean movie, and built an American movie aimed at teenagers around it.

Normally, this sort of thing would make me barf. But the scripting was good–better than you see in most teen horror movies. It could actually cause some thinking in kids who watch it, and I’m always in favor of that. Plus, it maintained the totally messed-up twist from “Two Sisters.”

This was far from being a perfect movie, but it was so much better than most of the crap that’s aimed at teens. And if you’re a “Two Sisters” fan, it won’t piss you off, because the movies are so completely different. It’s definitely aimed at younger audiences–seasoned horror fans will see the ending coming a mile away. But still, not bad.

-Rated PG-13
-3 out of 5
-OK for teens who like horror
